Certification Study Guide now available

The MySQL certification program is very useful, particularly for us DBAs, as it provides a basis for international recognition and of course a salary raise, but also to promote MySQL software. I found that questions on the MySQL DBA exams are more difficult than those on the Oracle DBA exams (I'm also Oracle OCP DBA). There are several ways to take MySQL certification exams: At a Pearson VUE testing center or during a MySQL event.

Taking MySQL Exams With Pearson VUE

Pearson VUE offers a world-wide network of more than 3,000 testing centers where you may take exams at short notice. Testing is computer-based, and most interaction with Pearson VUE before the exam takes place via the Pearson VUE website.

Testing with Pearson VUE offers the additional advantage that you get immediate feedback on the exam result; as soon as you finish your exam you will be given your pass/fail grade as well as score, and a section breakdown which tells you how well you did within each section.

Although the Pearson VUE website is normally the primary method of signing up for and paying for exams, Pearson VUE also offers toll-free telephone numbers and other customer service to help you out, if you have questions or special needs.

Other Exam-Taking opportunities

At various times, MySQL will offer the possibility of taking certification exams at different events. Most notably, discounted certification exams are offered during the MySQL Conference each year.

The examination is paper-based, but with the difference that exam results are often available later on the same day that the exam has taken place.
