neckermann.de originally deployed their web site on high cost symmetrical

The website
www.westfalia.de relies on 11 MySQL Servers, deployed on 4
machines. The Web application processes an average of 170,000 queries per
hour, and serves approximately 7.3 million page views per month. The site
receives about 400,000 visitors each month.

Fortum's Hogdalan power plant near Stockholm, Sweden, is one of Europe's most modern facilities for waste incineration. It produces electricity and heat from municipal waste and processed industrial waste. As management prepared to add a new waste fuel boiler to the plant in late 2004, they found that the current system for monitoring the waste incineration process would become insufficient.
