Company Recognized for Innovation and Leadership in Software Development Industry
SEATTLE, Wash. - (June 1, 2003) - MySQL AB, developer of the world's most popular open source database, today announced it has been selected for inclusion in the first annual SD TIMES 100, a list of companies and organizations that demonstrated the greatest innovation and leadership in the software development industry in 2002. The SD TIMES 100 is a product of SD Times, an IT trade newspaper written specifically for the software development manager.
MySQL AB is recognized for its achievements in the SD Times 100 "Database and Data Access" category. According to the editors at SD Times, "Not only has MySQL AB become part of the essential troika of open-source software, with Linux and Apache, but in 2002 the database gained a strong following among enterprise developers."
"The SD TIMES 100 looked for companies which set a direction that developers and the industry followed in 2002," said Alan Zeichick, editor-in-chief of SD Times. "When choosing the SD TIMES 100, we carefully considered each company's offerings and reputation, as well as the attention and conversation we've heard around the company and its products and technologies, as a sign of leadership within the industry." MySQL AB develops and markets the MySQL® open source database, a high-performance relational database management system for Web site and business application development and deployment. With a streamlined but functionally-rich feature set, the MySQL database maximizes speed, stability and ease of deployment. MySQL is available on all major Linux distributions, as well as Unix, Mac OS and Windows operating systems.
"We share this honor with the millions of software developers in the MySQL open source community, who play a critical role in MySQL's growth and success," said Mårten Mickos, CEO of MySQL AB. "Open source is one of the greatest things that has happened to software, and MySQL's place on the SD Times 100 underscores the power of the open source approach to create market-leading software."
Launched in February 2000, BZ Media's SD Times is a popular newspaper for the software-development industry. SD Times is published twice monthly in identical print and digital editions, and can also be read online at www.sdtimes.com.
