Kirchheim-Heimstetten -- May 28th 2008 –- Sun Microsystems, Inc. today announced that the Nordrhein-Westfalen Data Centre for Finance Management (RZF) is relying on MySQL Enterprise™ to deliver its database applications. Following a very successful test period for its custom-built financial applications, RZF plans to deploy additional MySQL™-based database applications in the future.
"With MySQL Enterprise, we can develop and manage new database applications that monitor all relevant operations quickly, easily and very cost-effectively," said Guido Kutasi, RZF database department head. "MySQL Enterprise enables us to deploy all the database applications we need while respecting our budgetary constraints."
MySQL was an obvious choice as a cost-effective alternative to proprietary database products for the RZF -- as most developers in the data centre were already familiar with MySQL, and could therefore be trained quickly. Another reason for the selection was MySQL’s excellent performance on Linux, the RZF’s primary operating system.
The MySQL deployment was completed in record time, and the database is now accessed daily by 150 to 500 employees in each office. To maintain and administer its applications, the RZF uses the database monitoring tools and support services included as part of the MySQL Enterprise subscription.
Over 260 MySQL database servers are already deployed across the tax management applications, including financial management forms, taxation-independent directories (bank code, postal code and street directory) as well as software license management applications. The MySQL Enterprise subscription is a comprehensive offering of production support, monitoring tools and database software to deliver optimal performance, reliability, security, and uptime for MySQL applications. MySQL Enterprise Unlimited subscriptions enable organizations to deploy an unlimited number of MySQL Enterprise servers with 24x7 support from Sun Microsystems for as low as $40,000 (32,000 EUR, GBP 24,000), or the cost of a single CPU of Oracle Enterprise Edition.
