New Release of MySQL (4.1.4 Gamma) is Now Available
This is a new gamma development release, adding new features and fixing recently discovered bugs. This release includes:
- The mysqld-opt Windows server was renamed to mysqld. This completes the Windows server renaming begun in MySQL 4.1.2.
- Added --start-datetime, --stop-datetime, --start-position, and --stop-position options to mysqlbinlog. These make point-in-time recovery easier.
- Numerous bug fixes.

This is a maintenance release of the current production version of MySQL Administrator and contains a few bug fixes relating to user administration, and the table editor.

New Release of MySQL (5.0.1 Alpha Snapshot) is Now Available
This is a snapshot of the alpha development release, adding new features and fixing recently discovered bugs. This release introduces:
- Added support of read only updateable VIEWS based on a single table or other updateable VIEWs.
- New "greedy" query optimizer that can significantly reduce the time spent on optimizing the query in some many-table joins.
- Various improvements in the stored procedure and replication code.

MaxDB by MySQL 7.5.00.16 is Now Available
This is a maintenance release of the production version of MaxDB. This version includes:
- The monitor table includes now 5 additional rows to get more information about usage of new join features like hash join and parallel join.
- In a hot standby system the backup history is distributed automatically.
- The performance of the precompiler runtime was significantly improved by using a hash based data structure for the internal data container

Interview: Catching up with Monty
Michael "Monty" Widenius is the CTO and co-founder of MySQL AB, and the original developer of much of the MySQL code base. Before Monty went into hiding to dive into work on new features for MySQL 5.0 (and spend time with his newborn daughter), we caught up with him on MySQL 4.1 and the state of the company from his point of view.

David Simpson describes the procedures involved with migrating a FileMaker 6 database running on Windows to a MySQL database running on any platform. Additional info is included regarding changes to this procedure which are required to convert FileMaker 7 to MySQL.
