Remote Server to Server Migration

The MySQL Migration Toolkit supports Server to Server migration eliminating a common bottleneck present in other migration solutions. You have the flexibility to run the MySQL Migration Toolkit on your desktop while migrating database applications between remote servers. The migration is not proxied through your desktop which means you can perform a migration remotely.

The MySQL Migration Toolkit will migrate or map objects from select proprietary database formats to MySQL including the following object types:

The toolkit enables you to use standard migration methods or you can easily create your own using the Java language. Using the standard migration methods several parameters can be tuned including: based on the parameters you require such as:

• Transactional / High-speed data handlers
• Foreign Key constraints
• Mult-language support (UTF8)
• User defined settings

Furthermore, you can transfer data online in real-time or you can store a snapshot of the data and schedule a future transfer offline using a SQL script for execution later. This option can also be used to create a backup copy of the stored data and put the application back into its original state.

The MySQL Migration Toolkit uses a platform independent agent written in Java so you can migrate databases to MySQL on multiple platforms. For example, you can migrate an Oracle database running on Solaris to a MySQL Server running on Linux to significantly reduce your database Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). Standards-based JDBC connectivity is used to connect to the data source. Users have the flexibility to add native methods written in C to improve performance.

Comprehensive Summary Reports

The MySQL Migration Toolkit generates comprehensive reports that provide detailed information about the number of objects (tables, views, etc) that have been migrated. Use these reports to identify the objects that have been migrated successfully and those that require additional attention.
